Hamilton-Wentworth Family Action Council (HWFAC) is pleased to endorse the "Reaching Minds Through Media" campaign. Alliance for Life Ontario will implement a provincial outreach to women who are experiencing a crisis pregnancy and to the segment of the public in conflict over the abortion issue. This campaign requires the purchasing of commercial airtime on major television networks, and the securing of funding to carry out a professionally developed, long-range educational plan.

A study performed in July of 2001 found that approximately 50% of adult Ontarians hold inconsistent (undecided) positions on abortion and thus represent the most "movable" audience. Furthermore, the study also revealed that a high percentage of respondents switched from a pro-choice to a pro-life position after broad informative statements were presented about unplanned pregnancies and abortion. Thus educational commercials on major networks will have an effect on the undecided portion of Ontarians. In the United States, in areas where commercials aired the longest, the abortion rate dropped by as much as 40%. In Ontario, this could translate into saving 15,000 unborn children and their mothers from abortion.

On Friday, April 26, Alliance for Life Ontario will be hosting a Gala Dinner at Carmen's Banquet Centre in Hamilton. Speakers will include Dr. Darrel Reid, President of Focus on the Family Canada, and Most Reverend A.F. Tonnas D.D., Bishop of Hamilton. Tickets are $50 each, with a large portion of the funds being directed to the campaign. This is an excellent opportunity to act effectively together, rather than independently and almost unnoticed as so often is the case.
