We received an update from CFAC regarding this issue, an issue which remains unresolved and a present danger and vulnerability to our youth. Here's the report from Brian Rushfeldt, President of CFAC:

"Over 40,000 signed age of consent brochures were presented in Parliament last session. The Canadian Alliance introduced a motion, debated it all day and the majority of Liberals, Bloc and NDP voted it down. But Justice Minister Cauchon promised he would take action on the issue." He consulted with the provinces during the summer to draft a proposal for the Minister. Apparently though, all the provinces couldn't agree, so the Justice Minister is not going forward with it. According to the latest update from CFAC, Mr. Cauchon's Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Paul Macklin, has said there are ethnic groups in different regions of Canada that would be offended if the age of consent for sex were raised. He wouldn't elaborate on which ethnic groups were against it.

CFAC has about another 5000 Age of Consent letters to present to Parliament again this session to REMIND Cauchon of his promise and the great need to protect children. They are still collecting those letters.
