April 2005 Newsletter

Spring DID YOU KNOW? That all our accomplishments in research, newsletters, workshops, website and email communications were achieved with the help of only 27 individual and 3 church donating partners? Only 30 paid members! The sum of $800.00 was spent this year from our $1,021.00 income. This went entirely towards website, curriculum, stamps and photocopying charges. We stretched these funds a long way. However, we sure could use many more financial supporters, because many of the costs are still absorbed by members of the Executive.

We are thankful for our donating partners of 2004. They represent just 9% of the 345 persons ...More...

babyclothes Birthright depends on the community to provide the many supplies which, in turn, are used to assist mothers and mothers-to-be. The annual Scavenger Hunt annually raises over 50% of Birthright's annual clothing needs and this all comes in one morning. Last year, 511 pounds of clothing were received at the Scavenger Hunt, as well as $1,622 in cash. This year, HWFAC has set a goal of 1,000 pounds of clothing, and $1,500 in cash. Please read the ad below and then call and register your church or agency for the 8th Annual Scavenger Hunt for Birthright. Come, experience the joy of giving to the pro-life community.

To learn more about this, see 8th Annual Scavenger Hunt invitation.

It was on February 9, 2004 that the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) introduced their Equity Policy with the associated glossary of re-defined terms which, in our opinion (based on documentation), was designed to set a framework for the normalization, promotion and equalization of homosexual, bisexual and transgendered sexual conduct and lifestyle.

What has HWFAC been doing in response to this? We have been intensely involved in this issue, ongoing since that evening. Some of the steps we have taken are as follows:
  1. Posed key questions to Superintendent Chuck Reid that evening during public question period.

  2. Immediate e-mail response to Superintendent Reid and trustees regarding the implications of the anti-homophobia strand of the Equity Policy.

  3. Written communication with the Minister of Education.

debate Whether you have children in the public school system or you do not, we are all in the midst of a very high-stakes battle with the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB). Now, more than ever, we need the greater Hamilton Christian community to stand together and prevent the School Board from implementing the Equity Policy before the redefinitions of the terms bias, culture, discrimination, curriculum, race and ethnicity, and the term equality of outcome, have been corrected. The way they are now defined, families who adhere to Judeo-Christian principles and beliefs will be considered biased, racist and discriminatory if they hold that all behaviours are not equal.

We believe that people are created equal, however, homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism are not subjects to be introduced or normalized in the school classroom. ... Furthermore, ...

malefemale Did you know that baseball season just started? And unfortunately, hockey season never got off the ground. But there's a season coming upon us that won't just go away… sex-ed. season! Yes, it's time again for the public school system to begin foisting a mental diet of homosexuality, bisexuality and transgendered lifestyles on your children's minds. And just as flu season requires inoculation to prevent the infestation of disease, so there are steps you can take to protect your children from the perverted fare about to be served up.

You can circumvent the insidious efforts of (well-meaning) educators by using the Declaration of Spiritual Values, a document formulated so that you as a parent can inform teachers about your core beliefs and how you want your child to be educated. It specifically addresses a number of areas that can give rise to concern on your part, and helps you explain to educators that you want these things excluded from your child's curriculum. It is your right to request ...More...

Prayer April 2005

sky cross
  1. Pray for our City and School Board officials for personal conversion and revival in their hearts. Pray for truth and light to dispel deception and darkness.

  2. 2 Cor.10:3 - 5 - For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

  3. That plans by the School Board to bring in anti-Christian ideologies into the school system be thwarted and stopped - that godly principles be permanently adopted.

  4. That God would raise up Christians willing to run as trustees next election.

  5. For the HWFAC's work with the HWDSB and that legal remedies will not be necessary to ensure policies and curriculum are respectful of Christian beliefs.

  6. The HWFAC can only inform and advocate. Pray that the Christian community will rise up and stand together for righteousness.

Sexual Health Network Update

purity As some of you may remember, the Hamilton-Wentworth Sexual Health Network was set up in June 1998 to address the high rates of teen pregnancy in the area. We consisted of various community organizations plus Public Health. Funding was provided by Public Health.
The objectives were:
  1. To reduce the occurrence of risk behaviours and to encourage the postponement of sexual involvement of teens (14 to 19 Yrs).

  2. To work together to create, reinforce and expand strategies that promote positive self-esteem and decision making in preteens and teens.

  3. To actively involve teens, parents, and representatives from all populations within the community, including those for whom barriers* exist, and to develop programs responding to their needs.

  4. To address identified gaps and build on strengths in urgent sexual health programming.

  5. To make recommendations to the Regional Public Health Department and member organization/agencies as appropriate.

  6. To delegate appropriate tasks and activities to the Sexual Health Services Steering Committee which will report back to the Sexual Health Services network for final approval.

* Barriers can include, but are not limited to: literacy level, language, culture, geography, social factors, life skills, education, economic circumstance, mental and physical ability.
