Focus on the Family Christian Citizen Seminar

HWFAC hosted 2 Focus on the Family Christian Seminars in the Hamilton area. The highly motivational events were exceptionally well done. The only disappointment was the low attendance. An event you should not have missed.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Curriculum

As reported in our December 2002 newsletter, the Elementary Teacher's Federation of Ontario (ETFO) submitted to the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) a document entitled `Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Issues in Education Resource List' requesting the HWDSB to use school funds to purchase some of these resources as support material in the elementary classroom.. ETFO claimed it was about creating a safe environment for all students. Hamilton-Wentworth Family Action Council (HWFAC) challenged this attempt of indoctrination by asserting the need for classrooms to be safe for our children in 3 ways; physically, emotionally and spiritually. The sexually deviant behaviours promoted by the ETFO are not safe in any of the three categories. HWDSB is now attempting to affirm these unsafe behaviours under the direction of the Anti-Racism and Equity Committee. Please refer to the article in this newsletter.

6th Annual Scavenger Hunt for Birthright

HWFAC held the 6th Annual Scavenger Hunt for Birthright at King's View Community Church and it was another record breaking year with 10 churches joyously working to bring in 758 pounds of supplies and $2043 in one morning for a total of 2800 points. A 25% increase above the previous record. Please, be involved this year. Check this newsletter for details.

PACE Alternative Classroom Proposal

The PACE alternative program continues to make its way through the red tape of the school board. Most recently, PACE joined forces with other faiths in requesting classrooms for their children which are not in opposition to the belief / value system that their families are instilling in their home. The school board seems to be recognizing that the joint request of various faiths is representative of a significant portion of the school population and must be addressed. Begin again to call your trustee and request PACE.

Launching of HWFAC Website

Gloria Turner, who fills many valuable roles at HWFAC, attended a website building course at her own expense in order that she could create a website for HWFAC. This website is awesome and loaded with vital information and links to help families restore and preserve our traditional family values that have been so seriously eroded. Visit us at hamiltonfamilyaction.org. Gloria thank you so much, you are a blessing.

Marriage and Legal Recognition of Same-Sex Unions

On April 10, 2003, HWFAC presented to the Federal Justice Committee regarding same-sex unions. Presenting in opposition was the Ontario Federation of Labour. The HWFAC presentation was well researched and documented, and evoked tough questioning from MPs. Oppositional MPs were unsuccessful in their attempt to trivialize the points made by HWFAC. The Lord truly blessed that day giving HWFAC the ability to respond with gentleness but authority. The Ontario Federation of Labour failed to score any significant points and very few questions were directed their way. Truth can never be disproved. For the presentation brief, please visit our website.

The Failure of Condom-Based Sex Education in Hamilton

Seven years of lobbying, educating, monitoring and researching paid a tremendous dividend in 2003. It was in 1996 that HWFAC began to challenge the approach used to educate Hamilton-Wentworth's youth with condom-based, value-free, have more sex, education and HWFAC has stayed close to this issue ever since. After arduous research, public presentations, lobbying and educating of City and school officials and parents, attendance in Public Health Sexual clinics of clients under 19 years of age plummeted 57% from 12,637 visits in 1997 to 5,445 in 1999. Weekly clinic hours offered, fell 29.7% during that same time frame. Public health and Planned Parenthood during those years cried that HWFAC intervention would cause teen pregnancy rates to spiral out of control. In 2003, after years of appeals with the Freedom of Information and Privacy Commissioner's Office by HWFAC, the Ontario Ministry of Health was ordered to release Hamilton-Wentworth and Ontario teen pregnancy rates for 1998 and 1999 and the results were stunning. During the 2 years that Sexual Health Clinics offered 29.7% less hours and attendance fell 57%, Hamilton-Wentworth 15 - 19 year old pregnancy rates decreased by 22.4 % from 51.3 / 1000 to 29.8 / 1000; the lowest recorded 15 - 19 year old pregnancy rate in Hamilton's history!

Many victories as a result of hard work bathed in prayer!!!!!!
