Hamilton's Rising
Social Costs
Hamilton has the highest social costs of our neighbouring communities as our tax dollars continue to promote and maintain teen 'safer' sexual activity, and to provide 'reproductive services', e.g. free condoms, needles, abortions, STD and HIV testing, etc.

This is more Harm Reduction Ideology at work. Dollars would be better spent actually helping those caught up in high-risk behaviours to get out of their addictions and/or high-risk behaviours. Remaining in such behaviours brings physical, emotional, financial and social costs that are felt especially and acutely by the ones caught in such high-risk lifestyles, as well as by family, friends, and the community.

On April 13, 2004, the HWFAC presented to the Social Services and Public Health Committee of Hamilton on the decrease in teen pregnancies due to the decrease in sexual health clinic hours (thereby reducing clients), appealing to them that they reduce further the funding to Sexual Health Clinic Services and Planned Parenthood, and instead put more funding toward the Sexual Health Network's abstinence projects, and local crisis pregnancy clinics. The Committee and Public Health largely ignored the findings amd the facts supporting them.

HWDSB Budget
And Moral Cost to Families
This policy will also usher in:

- Invitation of LGBT organizations' materials and representatives;
- Completely pushing out the abstinence message that at least some are getting;
- Insist and demonstrate to our students to use LGBT inclusive language (that excludes heterosexual language, like wife, husband;
- Read LGBT materials, and consider LGBT's in every subject;
- The taking away of our children's innocence by informing them about adult subjects and adult activity.
- Taking away their innocence, modesty and natural aversion to sexual activity;
- Override the attempts by parents to keep their children sexually pure and not tempted;
- Give children knowledge about sexuality before they are mature and responsible.
- The spending of significant School Board budget funds.

1) How many more teens and pre-teens, and their families, will suffer from the consequences?
2) What will the social costs climb to? Perhaps the HWDSB and City Hall can both give us an answer to that question?

Hamilton's Rising
Social Costs
Preliminary estimates presented Dec. 8 to City Councillors by City Manager Glen Peace indicate that an additional $51 million is required in 2005 in order to provide services at 2004 levels, and to implement service enhancements approved this year by City Council. The estimate is a starting point for the upcoming budget deliberations and the final figure may be higher or lower depending on a variety of factors including…

- Whether the province provides additional funding of $19.5 million to ease the City's social service cost pressures (this funding was provided in 2004 and Mayor Larry Di Ianni has been in talks with the province for such assistance again for 2005).

As in past years, there are many financial pressures contributing to rising costs. Among them for 2005 are…
- Rising costs and high demand for social services in the Hamilton area...
