Dear Sirs:

Re: ETFO Equity and Women's Services Resource List

I have recently been advised that your committee has been asked to consider adopting a list of teacher resources for use in the classroom with regard to 'Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Education', and, as a parent (or resident of Hamilton), I am quite alarmed.

Upon my review of the Print Resources and Video Resources taken from the School Board's September 26, 2002 Agenda, it appears that those who believe differently than we do, that is, those who believe that these sexual perversions are normal and healthy 'realities', desire to indoctrinate our teachers and children.

It is my wish that my child not be approached with anyone's ideas about these issues. I believe it is my place to explain these behaviours to my child when I feel the time is right. What I teach my child will reflect what I and my family believe to be true, and we will provide the evidence of that truth.

Should our teaching staff require better materials to address topics such as 'bullying' and the 'diversity of cultures' surrounding them, I would be most happy to search for more appropriate materials to assist them. Bullying in any shape or fashion is wrong and harmful to children, and I support your efforts to address that.

Please advise what the Equity Committee plans to recommend and/or make available to our schools at your earliest convenience. Please also advise who sits on the Equity Committee, how they came to be invited, and if anyone from our many School Councils have been invited to participate.

Finally, please be certain that, should any of these materials be recommended to our public schools, we, as a family, will not tolerate it. We will send our children elsewhere.
